Myanmar was hit by a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake on Friday, with tremors felt across Thailand as well as in nearby Chinese provinces.

The quake triggered the collapse of buildings in Thailand, where authorities declared an “emergency zone” in the capital Bangkok. Authorities are racing to rescue dozens of people believed to be trapped under the rubble of an under-construction high-rise in the city.
