GOP leaders urge Senate to pass Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’

House Republican leaders are calling on the Senate to take up the House-passed budget resolution that would lock in President Donald Trump’s 2017 tax cuts.

“The stakes are enormous here,” Brandon Arnold, who is the executive vice president of the National Taxpayers Union, told The National News Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat during a one-on-one interview Thursday.

“If we don’t renew these tax cuts, the average family of four making about $80,000 a year could see a tax hike of about $1,700 at the beginning of next year,” he added. “That would be devastating at any time, but particularly when people are really struggling to pay their bills, to pay their mortgages, and so forth. So, we need to lock these in. That will help counteract a lot of the economic uncertainty that has taken place due, in part, to tariffs and other policies. That will provide a shot in the arm if we can make these tax cut permanent (and) get the economy going back to where it needs to be.”
