The Los Angeles Chargers today announced the release of outside linebacker Joey Bosa.
Bosa, selected by the Bolts with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, earned consensus Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after posting 10.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss. He set an NFL record by recording 19 sacks in the first 20 games of his career. In all, Bosa started 83-of-107 regular-season games and four playoff contests over nine seasons with the Bolts, recording 343 tackles (252 solo), 72 sacks, 157 quarterback hits, 87 tackles for loss, 17 forced fumbles and four recoveries in the regular season.
A five-time Pro Bowl selection, who eclipsed 50 career sacks faster than any Charger ever (67 games), Bosa’s 72 career sacks in the regular season rank No. 2 in franchise history.
