Federal DOGE cuts impact Las Vegas, some workers lose jobs

Thousands of federal workers have been dismissed since President Trump took office, as part of his initiative to reduce the size of the government.

This move is affecting employees in both the nation’s capital and the Las Vegas valley.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has been among the agencies implementing these cuts, dismissing hundreds of employees, including some in Nevada. The VA provided a statement to News 3, saying, “In the state of Nevada, a limited number of probationary staff have been dismissed this month. This decision will have no negative effects on veteran health care.”

Additionally, a local Social Security office is slated for closure or relocation, although the specific office has not been identified.

The change is expected to save taxpayers approximately $16,000, according to the Department of Government Efficiency’s website.
