LOS ANGELES, Calif (FOX26) — After spending the morning in North Carolina witnessing the damage left behind by Hurricane Helene and promising victims to slash the red tape to speed recovery President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump landed in Los Angeles Friday afternoon.
The first to meet and greet him on the tarmac?
California Governor Gavin Newsom.
But, if anyone was expecting a confrontation between the two frequent, mutual critics it wasn’t happening today.
We’re going to need your help. you were there for us during COVID. I don’t forget that. and I have all the expectations that we’ll be able to work together to get this speedy recovery, said Newsom.”
“we will. we got to get it done, said Trump.”
From there it was on to Pacific Palisades to see firsthand the total devastation the firestorms left behind then to a news conference,
where democratic congressman Brad Sherman who represents the Palisades expressed concern about possible conditions on federal support.
“So, I’m hoping that we can get these funds and that we don’t punish individuals for the policies of their state, said Sherman.”
But the president’s answers were clear and unequivocal.
“We’re gonna waive, essentially waive all federal permits and have you go very quickly because a federal permit can take ten years we don’t even want to wait ten days, said Trump.”
Following the conference, President Trump left for the airport headed for Las Vegas where he was buoyed by the news that his controversial candidate for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth had just been confirmed in the Senate.
“I just heard that we won. winning is what matters, right, said Trump.”
President Trump also said he was surprised at the extent of the destruction caused by the Palisades fire but that he would come back as much as needed and would open the federal coffers to help victims rebuild.
The president is scheduled to speak to supporters in Las Vegas on Saturday before returning to Washington.
