Planetary alignment lights up night sky with four visible planets through mid-February

PORTLAND (WGME) — Starting Saturday evening, you’ll be able to see not one, two or three planets in the night sky, but four.

The graphic you see shows the moon’s trajectory through the night sky.

This means at its peak, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus will be shown to the south and Mars will be north and west.

The planet alignment will last every night through mid-February.

The best time to see it will be directly after dark.

The planets will be brightest around the new moon phase on January 29.

Unfortunately, the clouds will be with us this weekend.

It’s expected to be overcast at night both Saturday and Sunday, but once we get to Monday, you’ll have a much better chance to see the planetary alignment.

We will see two more planetary alignments this year, then it will be another 136 years before we see this again.
