Thank You for Participating in Our 2024 Nature Photo Contest!

Nature Canada’s annual Nature Photo Contest is a celebration of the plants and animals, landscapes, and nature moments that bring us joy and happiness.

It is a delight to encourage more Canadians to get outdoors and to connect with nearby nature across the summer months. Over 7,000 entries were received by Canadians from across the country for their photos to be featured in the Nature Canada 2025 Calendar.

And what a success it has been! We asked nature lovers to grab their cameras, head outside, and explore all the beauty Canada has to offer. Whether on a hike, spending time in a local park, or simply discovering what could be hiding in your own Naturehood! Participants have shown us that there is so much beauty in the nature around us and so much nature to immerse ourselves in.

The 2024 Nature Photo Contest is now closed and the winners of this year’s contest have been selected to be profiled in our annual Nature Calendar for our members. A huge congratulations to our winners! And a big thank you to all of our sponsors who provided support and amazing prizes, especially Black Feather who provided our grand prize, our virtual volunteers who logged 7,000 photos, our panel of Celebrity Judges who helped us choose the top 5 for public voting, and the thousands of members who voted on the winning image.

The official grand prize winner is featured on the cover of the Nature Calendar and thank you again to all who voted online.

About the Photo

“I had set out on an early winter morning with an image in my head. This is an image I have wanted for quite some time. We all know nature can be unpredictable and it requires a lot of quiet patience to get ‘that shot’. First obstacle was locating a very small owl. Imagine looking for a ‘feathery tennis ball’ in a large clear cut. Dressed in camouflage clothing and tucking myself into the fallen branches on the forest floor, I patiently waited. There’s a feeling of excitement when the owl lands right on the tree top in front of you and the backdrop is perfect. Breathe… click click, adjust the settings and click again. It has taken four years to get what I call ‘The Tree Topper’ shot.” – Sara King

Have you ever seen such a fluffy, cute Owl before?  Every time you look at this winning image, likely you will grin and smile ear to ear. And look forward to seeing a new animal each and every month in your nature calendar.

Our thanks once again to all the participants who captured and shared their favourite moments, wildlife and landscape images to inspire and remind us about how nature unites us and the importance of protecting Canada’s magnificent nature!
